Songbook that includes two versions of each song:

The first section presents the songs in a classical piano score format. This format gives one a more accurate impression of how the great Tin Pan Alley composers – Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and many others – intended their songs to be interpreted. Therefore, Wolfgang Köhler follows the masters, laying out the compositions in this manner, with attention given to harmonic, phrasing, and conceptual details, for those who wish to understand and play them as they were originally conceived.

Jazz musicians, however, tend to prefer putting forward their own interpretations of a song, finding the classical format rather restrictive. With that in mind, there is a second section, in which the same repertoire is presented in lead sheet format. These versions omit details while, at the same time, provide the essentials one needs, for those who want to experiment on their own.
